Attending: Long Island University, Palmer School of Library and Information Science

Renee Gardner received her Making It Real Scholarship in fall of 2006. She’s currently enrolled in the graduate program at Long Island University’s Palmer School of Library and Information Science, C. W. Post campus in New York.

Though Renee has worked over 20 years in the areas of public relations, events planning and fundraising, she’s always held a secret passion for working with students in a library setting. She decided to act on this desire after witnessing high school students struggling with basic reading and writing.

Renee is enjoying her journey back to school. She’s maintaining a 4.0 GPA while holding down a full-time job. She says the instructors at Long Island University are very knowledgeable and always available to guide students.

"This is an exciting time for library professionals around the globe," says Renee. "Libraries everywhere are changing in order to meet the evolving needs of their communities. It's challenging to be a part of this movement."

Renee lives in Oyster Bay, Long Island with her 15-year-old son, Jonathan.
